RSS Feed for This PostYou're Reading How to Disable Paltalk Ads?

Are you afraid of using Paltalk? Well, not anymore. But first, I want to talk a bit about Paltalk.

Paltalk is an internet chat service for text, voice and video chatting. The Paltalk Messenger program is in a free, banner-supported format as well as an ad-free version that requires users to subscribe. Unlikely other Yahoo or MSN messenger, Paltalk implemented huge advertising and cause your system runs slow and sometime it crashes. I’ll show you the trick to disable them.

1. Log-in with Administrator account
2. Click Start
3. Select My Computer
4. Doubl-click on C:\ Drive -> Windows -> system32 -> drivers -> etc -> open hosts file with Notepad
5. Copy “127.0.0.1 advertising.paltalk.com” without quotation marks
6. Paste under 127.0.0.1 localhost
7. Voila, you can enter into any rooms without ads disturbing you

The method for getting rid of ads on paltalk doesn’t work as theres no ‘host’ file in Systems32>Drivers and what ect-> means I don’t know. Do we get answers as I don’t seem to be the only one with this problem.

    Hi Roy,

You haven’t opened up the “ect” folder yet. Therefore, you won’t see “hosts” file.

    Hi Roy.
First of all, it’s the etc file. Click on it. You will see the host file. (Files are in alphabetical order)Click on the Host file icon and you will be given a choice of which program to open it with. Click on Notepad and it will open. Follow the instructions carefully

I had followed your instructions to the letter… Your method does not work. You didn’t mention anything about which OS it will work on either. The IP address may have changed that you had given out. I think it would be best for you to go back to the drawing board and hopefully finds the correct answer if you truly wish to help others. It is much easier to go to START/SEARCH and look for the folder name ETC than your roundabout method. Besides you neglected to mention the ETC folder in your instructions. This is sloopy work sir.

i followed as mentioned. Does not work.

  23. By JOey on Feb 10, 2009 | Reply

This worked perfectly for me. Awesome work. Now it says ‘this page cannot load’ at the bottom of the paltalk window - but at least it’s not those shitty ads.

How did you ever figure this out? I’m kind of interested in the mechanics….can you explain what 12207.localhost actually does and what we are telling the computer by entering that second line?

    Thanks again.

I couldn`t save the host after editing either `Win XP sp3`..so someone out there ain`t gettin it right!!

Now for the REAL way to stop Paltalk ads in rooms (not in chat boxes)

    open your browser
    tools
    internet options
    security
    restricted sites
    then once thats highlighted
    another button comes
    Sites…click on that
copy n paste the next 3 lines of text one at a time into the box
    and add each
    advertising.paltalk.com
    exitpop.paltalk.com
    sidekick.paltalk.com
    close the Restricted sites box
click ok on internet options box
you`ll see the bottom of the room turn blue
everytime you gotto a room from now on///no ads
you still get their other ads
    but not in a room

    hello Jim ,
thanks for info but still does not work for me … please help ,
    thanks

This solution works on XP as well as 95, 98 and Vista. You must change your VIEW to see all system files and known file types.
The idiot that said he could not find the HOST file is because it says the HOSTS file. You forgot the S you moron.
The file by default is READ only, change that attribute first then open with notepad.
when you save, make sure ALL files is selected else it will save it as HOSTS.TXT which is WRONG!!!! There file is HOSTS not extension

  27. By Jonas Grumby on Jun 1, 2009 | Reply

Laurin, right click the file and remove the READ ONLY attribute.

Great. It even disabled the ads that were appearing within Internet Explorer Window. It used to to be frustrating, especially an add of an ugly smile advertising for a product to whiten teeth. What a discusting picture it was. Thank you very much. I just hope that paltalk will not find a way arround it.

i been reading posts on pal ads if you have xp you can do adds stop same by doing this
go to run type in drivers
    open up the folder “etc”
open up the “hosts” file with note pad
on the last line you will see this
    127.0.0.1 localhost
so on the next line add this command
    127.0.0.1 exit.paltalk.com
    127.0.0.1 advertising.paltalk.com
…Close the document and save changes
    …restart paltalk
